Dealer Crisis: Unsold Cars Overflow – What’s the Plan?

Dealer Crisis: Unsold Cars Overflow – What's the Plan?

In this video I answer questions about the overflowing inventory at car dealerships.

My name is Brandon and I am a used car dealer. I created Car Questions Answered to share the ins and outs of the used car market from my perspective. I share with you updates on car prices, what's happening at the dealer auctions, and what it's like being a dealer. My goal is to share information to help you make the best decisions while buying a car to save you money. I do not want car dealers taking advantage of you.

Thanks for watching and please feel free to leave any comments you may have in the section below!

I worked for an auto manufacturer in the 2008-9 recession. Manufacturers in some cases rented football fields to store excess capacity. Then the next step was to cut production by reducing shifts and pausing plants. The next step was to lower prices. Yes, in that order. ?‍♂️

Agreed 100%. There is an old expression that says the following: The slap you give yourself must not hurt. The dealers created their own hell with their price gauging since the hitting of COVID. When you raise and charge above MSRP, you deserve to have locks on your doors! Absolutely!

I can tell you that the real plan is to discourage car-ownership. All part of the net-zero insanity, DEI, green agenda etc.
The next ploy by the elites to suck wealth from the plebs to benefit themselves.
At these prices, who can afford a new car? Or food and energy? Insurance? Housing?
This is what you get when little dictators manipulate the monetary system, foodproduction, propertymarkets and this is what happens when the media is bought and paid for by the very same tiny group of elitist dictators.
And now it’s heading to an eruption, because the masses are waking up to this collapsing debt-based system and failed policies of immigration, housing, finance, supplychains and inflation.
2023 was the worst year in decades, but 2024 will be even worse.

@@abeyoungworth2046it’s spelled gouging if you’re going to post use the correct word …also let’s not excuse the customers who bought these high priced trucks they are responsible for creating the demand that dealers took advantage of…

Nissan dealer near me is still adding on $5k of mostly worthless add-ons to every vehicle – new and used. Their lot is packed and they have even started storing vehicles (mostly Rogues from what I can tell) on an empty lot on the other side of the hiway from the dealership.

    2015: over priced by $5,000
    2018: over priced by $10,000
    2020: over priced by $15,000
    2021: over priced by $18,000
    2022: over priced by $20,000
    2023: over priced by $30,000
Knocking $10,000 off doesn’t do sht… U have nearly a decade of overpricing to make up for, if u don’t knock $30,000-$50,000 off then we don’t care. Shove it…

I just seached vehicles yesterday and dealers prices in appearance seems fine, but once you start reading small letters, they still have all kind of ridiculous fees and cheat on the disclosures. Sadly but they do not seem to suffer yet.

They’re still trying to sucker people into buying. And guess what? People are still buying. Go figure ?. Like my coworker this past week. He got bent over on a used car altough he won’t admit it.

The plan? Knock all unnecessary elections off, no touch screen, no side cameras, no digital gauges, no over the top emissions bs. Remove at least $30,000 of electric JUNK off the vehicle then offer a $5,000 discount then watch them sell like hot cakes!

I doubt that stuff costs a dime on the dollar asked. It’s just bobbles to justify the high price. Sell the car at the reduced price. That being the price being what will move it. Oddly, I hear Euro manufacturers don’t sell their cars at market moving price. They take them back and junk them. Videos abound of Mercedes—brand new—being dismantled and recycled. Makes one cry.

We do know the answer. At least in part. After the initial crash. Lost jobs, closed/ bankrupt dealerships. Mass layoffs for UAW workers. The unsold, lot rotten automobiles are sent to the land of misfits. Also known as new car graveyards. They are scattered across the country out of sight thousands of unsold new vehicles in mass yards inevitably headed off to the crusher.

We really need to get rid of dealerships and allow direct sales. Those dealerships can become delivery and service centers. They need to operate as franchises of the car brand rather than as independant dealerships. The car maker should get to set the sales pricing and terms.

Jeep is made in Toledo, OH. Stellantis just announced they are going to lay off 1225 works at the Toledo Assembly Complex. Starting as early as Feb. 5 2024. It’s starting already!

    1. @awwashere3612

@@EmmyPierz-ek7hi we can’t say we didn’t see this coming. American (Italian owned brand jeeps) have been overpriced for YEARS . I don’t know who Jeep thinks buys their brand ( wagonier for 100 thousand plus ???) I saw a Jeep wrangler rubicon in a Florida showroom for 94 k??. I mean ITS A FREAKIN JEEP NOT A DAMN BMW OR MERCEDES PEOPLE !!!

  9. @Beatles4Sale.

I wonder if the build quality of that pre pandemic 2018 Camry is better than a new one? Noticed a big difference with the Accords. That would be my only reason to lean towards the 2018 with 4k miles. But it is five years old.

  10. @lookinforwater4344

The dealerships could clear stock, they are just mentally stuck in 2021/22. Still see mark up above MSRP (Toyota, Honda, etc)…here in central TX.

They want to keep wanting to gouge buyers /play games. By this time next year a whole lot of these sales people will be gone…and the sales managers (that kept them on the wrong path) will be at another dealership.

  11. @neiljuedes1661

How Brain dead could the manufactures be to think that we the customer could afford to pay 50,60,70,000 or more for a 1/2 ton truck. They priced them up to 30 grand or more than what they are worth. Not to smart.
